Apple Power Macintosh

In September 2009 I started to downsize this collection to a few items and then archived this section to its own subdomain at the start of October 2011.

Introduced in 1994 with the 6100, 7100 and 8100 models the Power Macintosh was the first Apple computers to be based around the PowerPC CPU.

An immense effort was undertaken to allow the transition over from the 68000 based cpu's to be as seamless as possible. This included an emulator built into the operating system as well as the idea of 'fat' binaries, a program with both 68k and PowerPC executable code.
