Yesterday I found out about a cool Tetris clone for OS X called Quinn. How? Via a post on Boing Boing talking about how The Tetris Company has threatened legal action against the clone.
Where is the irony? The first thing I did was search for ‘quinn download‘ in order to find myself a copy. It is pretty good and very addictive, and that is just playing by myself. I haven’t tried the multiplayer aspect yet…
By threatening legal action they have temporarily stopped one source from distributing it but in the process they have given it a lot of publicity and people like me will just download it from somewhere else. What have they really gained?

Sometime this afternoon I found my installation of Transport Tycoon so I decided to fire it up and see what screen resolutions it could support. To my surprise (not so much in hindsight) it supports 1920×1200 (and above) which is the native resolution of my shiny new display. Like one day a year ago I then proceeded to spend quite a few hours trying to lay out an efficient train network.

This afternoon around 3PM I noticed that I still had a copy of Transport Tycoon on disk ready to play and then around 8PM I noticed that it was dark and I was hungry. I had spent five hours emersed in one of the most engrossing games I have ever played.
It is the sheer satisfaction of being able to lay out the train tracks just so in order for the most efficient running…
